An Introduction to Amplification
Most of us know what amplification is: the process of increasing the strength of a signal, or increasing the loudness of a sound so that it may be more easily received and understood. That's a pretty good analogy for the kind of impact that effective marketing strategies can have on the growth of your business. But, beyond this definition, we have a greater, more personal bond to the symbol of the amplifier.

The Story
A few years ago, we attended a leadership and character development workshop. As part of this weekend-long workshop, we participated in a 'game.' Unbeknownst to us all, the way you play this game, is a reflection of the way you play life. We were given a vague objective that required us all to participate. While there was confusion over the purpose and goal of the exercise, our team piled into a room together and started the challenge in a race against the clock.

As with any project requiring teamwork, trying to mesh a variety of personalities can be challenging. But the largest challenge confronted, was the challenge to be heard. You see, halfway through this exercise the answer to the 'game' became apparent to one person. And when that answer suddenly hit him like a brick wall, he stopped everyone to explain his idea. Despite the silence in the room, no one listened and no one heard. Well, almost no one. There was a boisterous woman whose personality was completely opposite of his and she yelled out, "WAIT! I think he has a point!" But still – no one listened. As we learned: it takes more than volume to be heard.

Only two of us understood the real objective of this exercise. At the end, we walked out of that room having failed the challenge because we didn't accomplish the objective. But only two of us had even realized we had failed. And when everyone else was told the answer that had already been presented back in that room – again the group went silent. Only, this time – they heard. Unfortunately, the exercise was over. The opportunity to succeed had passed us by.

There were more than a few lessons learned from that exercise. We learned that you can know the answer and somehow still fail. And your biggest supporters can have a personality completely opposite of yours. You don't have to like them. They don't have to like you. Yet together, you can still find a solution and agree to support one another. And lastly, you can scream at the top of your lungs and still not be heard.

Getting others to listen requires more than turning up the volume – it requires an amplification of a different kind: targeted communication; the right message presented in a way that allows your listener to relate and understand.

Whether you're branding your business, building a clientele, or organizing a membership drive, when you send a message that lacks clarity and power it's like whispering at a rock concert. You might as well be talking to yourself.

At Zabbo, our goal is to help you amplify your message so your prospects can understand it and make the decision to work with you.
